A friend of ours used to routinely invite the neighbors over for Viking’s game day, BBQs, and Holiday get-togethers. In the last couple of years, they haven’t hosted anything. Recently, I asked her why and learned she didn’t like her guest bathroom next to their kitchen. At first, this seemed sort of silly. But, after I thought about it, I could see where she was coming from. Of all the rooms in the house, other than the kitchen or living room, the main level/guest bathroom is the only room in the house that guests will be in alone. It gets the dirtiest and experiences the most wear and tear from everyone that lives in the house. Unlike a dirty, outdated, or cluttered kids’ bedroom, you can’t shut a main level/guest bathroom door to discourage guests from using it. If you feel the same about your main level/guest bathroom, then this blog is for you. Uniquely Yours Home is your local interior decorator, home remodel consultant, and we offer home staging services. We are full of remodeling ideas for bathroom makeovers, bathroom renovations, and small bathroom remodels. In this blog, we will share some DYI bathroom makeover ideas. But, if you need help, contact Uniquely Yours Home today at 763-458-9710. We offer affordable, hassle-free home remodeling consulting services. If you are thinking of selling your home and want a bathroom makeover for home staging, we can help with that too.

Paint

A fresh coat on your walls and even your ceiling will drastically improve the space. For your bathroom makeover or bathroom remodel, try to stay away from flat paint finishes as they will show water spots easily. When selecting the color shade, factor in how bright your space is, can it handle a darker shade, or should you keep it light and bright? Check out this bathroom, we went from a blah feel to a spa feel with just a fresh new color! See the before (brown/orange paint) and after (grey paint) bathroom makeover below.

Textures

Within your bathroom makeover space, you can add texture with the fabrics you choose, such as rugs, towels, and shower curtains. A tone-on-tone texture used throughout your space adds visual interest without being busy.

Décor & Accessories

Do you have room on a bathroom wall to add artwork? Or do you need more storage? Choose a piece that hangs above the toilet to work with what your needs are. Add floating shelves and canisters for functional storage. It can double as a place to add a few well-positioned decorative pieces. You may even have enough wall space for a free-standing storage piece, as seen in this tiered shelving unit with a clock pictured here.

The Mirror

Often overlooked but easy enough to update. A couple of ideas here. First, you replace it with something new or you can frame it, so it looks customized (as shown in the main blog picture above) for your space. We’ve done both, and we have loved the outcome no matter what is decided.

If you are willing to take it a step further, you can add to your project with:

Flooring

Do you have linoleum or sheet vinyl, or do you need to replace broken tiles? If your answer is yes to any of these then now is the time to look at changing up that floor. When choosing new flooring choose something that is classic and will not lock you into a hard color story or overly busy pattern. Fresh, new tiles in this space do not have to break the bank but it may require a contractor. Typically, the floor in a bathroom is a smaller space-saving you time and money if you outsource.

Lighting

How is that light fixture? If it is outdated or broken it needs to go! There are so many options when it comes to lighting for this space. We love using a matte black metal for your finish, it is timeless and works with all decorating styles. When putting in a new fixture make sure to give some attention to the lightbulbs. Learn more about lightbulb temperature in this blog post: https://www.uniquelyyourshome.com/post/3-lighting-ideas-to-update-and-modernize-any-room.

Fixtures

Here we are talking about the towel and toilet paper roll, the handles on your vanity, and so on. Anything that has a metal finish in your space can be swapped out easily enough and elevate your refresh. Again, we love using matte black finishes here as well.

Plumbing

Like updating your flooring, you may need a contractor here as well. The faucet at your sink and tub/shower can be updated with new plumbing fixtures to finish off your refresh. If you updated your lighting and fixtures, we suggest updating the plumbing pieces to match that same metal finish.

Summary

When it comes to the main level/guest bathroom makeover, it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing project or go as far as a full bathroom renovation. You can do a few simple remodeling ideas that do not require outside help and totally change the vibe in your space. If you are handy, you can explore additional updates or changes that land on the other end of the spectrum of bathroom renovations. It may require a little more time and budget but will not go unnoticed. But, if you need help, contact Uniquely Yours Home today at 763-458-9710. In addition to bathroom makeovers, bathroom remodeling, and small bathroom renovations, we offer affordable, hassle-free home remodeling consulting services. If you are thinking of selling your home and want a bathroom makeover for home staging, we can help with that too.
